Votrient is a type of medicine called a protein kinase inhibitor. It is used to treat kidney cancer that is advanced or has spread to other organs. It works by preventing the activity of proteins that are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells. The Pazopanib acts by interfering the growth of cancer cells and decreases the speed of their spread in the body. This drug is used for treating advanced renal cell carcinoma or kidney cancer. Before starting to take this medicine, you should update your doctor about your medical condition.
You should tell your doctor if you have any heart or liver disease.
Similarly, your doctor should also know about your underactive thyroid, ulcer or high blood pressure. Tell your health care provider about your stomach disorder or if you have a history of “Long QT syndrome“. If you have any blood clot related problem, then you should inform your doctor about this.
Renal-cell carcinoma (RCC)It is indicated in adults for the first-line treatment of advanced renal-cell carcinoma (RCC) and for patients who have received prior cytokine therapy for advanced disease.Soft-tissue sarcoma (STS)This drug is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with selective subtypes of advanced soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) who have received prior chemotherapy for metastatic disease or who have progressed within 12 months after (neo) adjuvant therapy.Efficacy and safety have only been established in certain STS histological tumour subtypes.Pazopanib may cause several side effects. If you experience any side effects such as blood-laced cough, loss of appetite or jaundice, then you should immediately stop using this medicine and seek medical help. If you are planning to have a surgery, then you should tell your surgeon in advance about your use of brand or generic Votrient. You should use appropriate form of birth control while taking this drug, as this medicine may cause harm to an unborn child.
The recommended initial dosage of the Votrient is 800 mg once a day. The drug is meant to be taken by mouth. It should be taken without a meal, that is, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. This medicine should not be taken in the crushed from. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if there is less than 12 hours of time left for the next dose then you should skip the missed dose. You should not overdose on Votrient.
