Coolest city in the union

Houston was named by Forbes Magazine as the Coolest City is the US and part of the reason is because there is an endless amount of fun to be had by everyone in your family, especially during the summer time.

Museum culture

Houston is rich in culture. The Houston Museum district is home to 19 museums, all of which offer hours with free admission and 12 which are free at all times. If you have children, beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Houston. It was named American’s No 1 Children’s museum by Parents Magazine. The museum is 90,000 square feet of hands on activities for the whole family to enjoy including FlowWorks, Kidtropolis and PowerPlay exhibits.

Natural history

Another exciting place to visit is Houston Science and Nature Museum. The museum is home to the Burke Baker Planetarium, CockrellButterflyCenter, Wortham IMAX theatre, and over a dozen permanent exhibits representing a little something for everyone.

There is a bevy of bounties to explore, such as Native American history, chemistry, energy, astronomy, paleontology, minerals and gems, seashells and space science.

Noah’s ark

What summertime vacation would be complete without a trip to the zoo? The Houston Zoo is open year round, excluding Christmas Day. They have over 6000 permanent animal residents whom they provide meals, medical care, housing and even education.

Every year, over 2.3 million visitors take part in trotting all over the globe experiencing the wondrous creatures that make their home at the Houston Zoo.

Water park

Houston can be a hot and humid place to visit, so what better way to spend part of your trip at Splashtown. It is home to more than 10 pools and slides, including the RipQurl which launches two riders up a dark tunnel where they travel 26 feet per second before accelerating around steep and arcing turns into the 40 foot bowl of the ride and ending with a slash at the end in a pool below. The park also features 3 raft rides and a few family thrill rides as well. Relax the day away in a rental cabana or get your soak on in the Texas sun.

World famous shopping

Want to wind down a little and take in some shopping? Houston has a lot to offer in this category. There is the HoustonCenter, RiverOaksShopping Center, Memorial City Mall and of course, don’t forget The Galleria.

The Galleria is the largest shopping center in Texas and the fourth nationally. It houses over 400 stores and restaurants, two high-rise hotels and three office towers. There is a full size ice rink, 12 beauty salons, two swimming pools, a video arcade and even a post office. You literally could shop til you drop.
